5 star customer service & patient care
At Distinctive Dentistry, we take pride in offering a unique experience that begins the minute you walk into our office. Once you have arrived, we do all that we can to make sure that you feel more like a family member rather then just another patient. While you listen to the soft & soothing sound of the "Spirit Falls" water fountain, we invite you to enjoy a book from our extensive library near the fireplace in our cozy reception area. You’ll feel as though you never left home.

Too busy to have breakfast or lunch before your visit with us, no problem—We’ve got you covered. Please help yourself to a snack and beverage from our nutrition bar. You’ll find your favorite juices, iced and herbal teas, hot chocolates, freshly brewed flavored coffee and nutritional snacks to help you feel energized and refreshed.

Please trust that we do all that we can to insure your total comfort while in our treatment rooms. While visiting for an appointment in restorative, we invite you to watch your favorite movie or television show. Choose from over 100 movies—if you don’t see your favorite movie, please let us know, and it will be waiting for you at your next visit. We also provide pressure relieving neck & back support pads and blankets for your comfort.

For your pleasure we invite you to enjoy a hot paraffin wax treatment that will have your hands feeling like silk for days to come. (It’s heavenly)! At the end of your visit, you will be refreshed with a hot lemon scented facecloth.

Again, we strive to do all that we can to make sure that your time with us is as enjoyable as possible. We value each and every one of our patients and you can be guaranteed that you’ll be treated like family while visiting with us.

Cosmetic Dentistry
At Distinctive Dentistry, we feel that a smile is worth a thousand words, therefore we are dedicated to creating beautiful smiles.  A newly designed smile can greatly effect one's confidence, self-esteem, and even enhance personal relationships.  If you have ever thought about or have questions concerning cosmetic dentistry, a one on one consultation can be set up with Dr. Matthews to further explore the opportunities available to you.

Periodontal Care
A key element to strong and lasting teeth is maintaining healthy gums and bones.  We provide treatment and education on what steps are necessary to maintain healthy gums and bones.  Without proper periodontal treatment and home care, there is increased risk of serious oral health care problems in the future.

Treating High Anxiety Patients
The comfort and relaxation of our patients is of the utmost importance to us.  If for any reason you find yourself feeling tense or uptight, we offer several methods of anxiety reducing "anti-anxiety" medications.  Many of our patients also enjoy relieving their anxiety with nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas.  You can trust that we will do all that we can to eliminate your anxiety and have you leaving our office in a relaxed state of mind.

Crown & Bridge
Crown:  A crown is a restoration that covers, or "caps", a tooth to restore it to its normal shape and size, strengthening and improving the appearance of a tooth.  Crowns are necessary when a tooth is generally broken down and fillings won't solve the problem.  If a tooth is cracked, a crown holds the tooth together to seal the cracks so the damage does not get worse.  Crowns are also used to cover badly shaped or discolored teeth, protect weak teeth from fracturing, restore fractured teeth, and to attach a bridge.

Bridge: If you are missing any teeth and are committed to maintaining good oral health, you may be a candidate for a bridge.  A bridge is a dental appliance that replaces one or more natural missing teeth, thereby "bringing" the space between two teeth.  A bridge is the most natural choice to fill a space in your mouth left by a missing tooth or teeth.

TMJ Treatment
TMJ: Are Yours Healthy?

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a joint that slides and rotates just in front of your ear, consisting of the temporal bone (side and base of the skull) and the mandible (lower jaw). Mastication (chewing) muscles connect the lower jaw to the skull, allowing you to move your jaw forward, sideways, and open and close. The joint works properly when the lower jaw and its joint (both the right and left) are synchronized during movement. Temporo-mandibular Disorder (TMD) may occur when the jaw twists during opening, closing or side-motion movements. Temporo-mandibular disorders (TMD) are a group of recognized diseases affecting the chewing apparatus with many signs and symptoms. Do you recognize any of these:

Temporo-mandibular Disorders

Signs:
Symptoms:
Malocclusion:Bite disturbances
Excess dental attrition:
Headaches
Decreased range of jaw motion:
Joint noises
TMJ tenderness:
Pain with wide jaw opening
Masticatory muscle tenderness:Locking
Jaw opening irregularity:
Jaw stiffness or fatigue
Deviations, noises, catching:
Facial or jaw pain
Pain increasing with jaw movement:
Dental sensitivity
Chewing muscles enlargement:
Tinnitus & earaches

Many patients with TMD initially seek help from a dental professional because jaw movements make discomfort in the facial region increase. So, if you are aware of stress related oral habits such as clenching the teeth or (bruxism), have had an accident involving injuries to the jaw, head or neck, have had arthritis of the joint or a malocclusion in which the teeth come together in a manner that produces abnormal strain on the joint or surrounding tissues, you are in the increased risk category.

The disease (TMD) is categorized this way:

   1. Muscle complaints: muscle inflammation, muscle spasm, and protective muscle splinting.
   2. Articular disc derangement: the disc that allows smooth movement of the joint may be displaced or damaged. Clicking sounds or limited mouth movement may be a symptom.
   3. Problems resulting from extrinsic trauma: injuries from external causes such as dislocation of the joint and bone fractures.
   4. Joint diseases: degenerative and inflammatory forms of arthritis may damage the joint.
   5. Chronic mandibular hypomobility: when the muscles of the jaw are damaged or shortened due to damage.

The condition of TMD is often cyclical and may recur during times of stress, good or bad.
